Dry skin can increase the appearance of scaly parts, white flakes, redness or irritation, eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis. It is a skin type, just like combination, oily, and sensitive. 

However, dehydrated skin is not the same as dry skin. It is a skin condition that happens when your skin lacks water.  

Dehydrated skin can happen to anyone despite their skin type. Its cause is usually due to inadequate water intake. 


How To Know if You Have Dehydrated Skin? 

Your skin might look dull and can show more premature signs of aging such as surface wrinkles and loss of skin elasticity. 

You might also notice the following: 

  • Darker under eye circles or tired eye appearance 
  • Itchiness 
  • Dullness of skin 
  • Fine lines 
  • Appearance of shadows in areas around eyes and nose 


Can You Treat Dehydrated Skin? 

Dehydrated skin can be treatable through lifestyle changes such as not drinking alcohol or limiting intake, regular exercise, and limiting caffeine consumption. 

Other lifestyle changes you can do include: 

  • Quitting smoking 
  • Drinking water while working out and replenishing lost water during physical activity 
  • More fruits and vegetables 
  • Plenty of rest 


It can also help to include some active ingredients to your skincare routine such as: 

  • Glycerin 
  • Aloe  
  • Honey 
  • Snail mucin 
  • Lactic acid 
  • Citric acid 


Oral hydration also plays a part in treating dehydrated skin. You can also try incorporating water-rich foods such as watermelon, strawberries, and cucumbers into your diet. Water mist like rose water can also help adding water into your complexion.
