Food provides nutrients to the body that it uses for its multiple functions such as digestion, growth and repair of the body, and strengthening of the immune system. Aside from that, food is also believed to have benefits on one’s moods.  

2020 research found that poor diet can cause low moods. One of its key findings was that healthy diets such as the Mediterranean diet are associated with better mental well-being as compared to unhealthy diets.  

It noted that eating foods with highly refined carbohydrates can have detrimental effects on psychological well-being. Diets with a high glycemic index can also increase depressive symptoms.

Some foods contain serotonin and dopamine, which can boost your mood. It includes:
